THE DAILY RITUAL

A smarter supplement routine as we age

The Yurz Journal

A useful routine is not the longest list of bottles. It is the one that fits your needs.

Start with what is already on your plate

Nutrient needs and food choices can change over time. Eating a variety of foods remains the foundation. Supplements can help address particular gaps, but they do not supply every benefit of a balanced eating pattern.

Review before you add

Make one list of your prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, and supplements. A clinician or dietitian can help you check whether an addition is needed and whether ingredients overlap. More is not automatically better: excess amounts of some vitamins and minerals can be harmful.

Pay attention to the label

Check the serving size, amounts, directions, and cautions. A multivitamin may already contain a nutrient that appears in a separate product. Never replace prescribed treatment with a supplement without discussing it with your healthcare professional.

Keep the habit simple

Choose a cue you can remember, such as keeping your routine near a daily checklist. Store bottles as directed and out of reach of children. Revisit the plan when medicines, diet, or health change. Consistency is helpful when the routine itself is appropriate.
